The pitter patter of little feet heading towards the back door, FLIP FLAP FLIP FLAP, means only one thing. That’s the sound of dogs heading for their morning rituals in the snow-covered ground outside.
If you had the opportunity to watch The Secret Life of Pets, you know who runs the house, it truly is your pet(s). We take them for walks, buy them extremely expensive toys and treats, name them after TV stars and give them playmates! We do anything for them, because they love us unconditionally and protect us.
On this National Love Your Pet Day, (one of 1,200 National Days we celebrate), there are high expectations to give special attention to our pets. Here are some ideas on what you can do for your pet today:
- Give your pet a bath
- Mount a bird feeder outside the window where your cat hangs out
- Make a hammock out of a washcloth for your guinea pig
- Take your dog for a ride in the car or go for a long walk
- Let your snake swim around in the tub
- Think about getting your parakeet another mirror
- Give your horse a groom/spa day!
Even if you don’t have a pet, consider donating to a shelter or animal welfare organization or donating your time, food or supplies.
The author of Marley and Me said it best, "Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day. It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives, and even how much closer we become with each other because of them.”
